Membership Terms & Conditions
The Winnipeg Brew Bombers Homebrew Club (hereafter referred to as the “Club”) is an organization with a mission to promote the hobby of homebrewing to individuals throughout its area of operation. Membership to the club is open to all who are exploring their interest in homebrewing. By joining the Club:
- Members agree to an informal governance arrangement in which authority for decisions on Club business is vested with the Club Executive in the manner described in this document
- Members agree to abide by the Club’s Code of Conduct
- Members, as individuals, acknowledge that there is some personal risk associated with every Club Activity and accept and agree that the Participation Waiver automatically applies to their membership and extends to all Club Activities.
Activities
The Club fulfills its mission through the following activities:
- Providing a forum for Members to discuss topics of shared interest (homebrewing techniques, styles, recipes, ingredients, equipment, etc.);
- Host regular Club meetings where topics of shared interest are discussed and where Members are provided with an opportunity to share and receive feedback on their homebrew;
- Provide group buy opportunities in which Members receive access to special pricing, variety, and/or quality of select homebrew equipment, materials and supplies;
- Encourage Members to continually improve the quality of their homebrew through the promotion of and/or operation of educational events and homebrew competitions;
- Promote the Club in the community to increase recruitment and participation of Members in the Club’s activities.
Area of Operation
The Club has no geographic restrictions on membership, but carries out its activities primarily in Winnipeg, Manitoba and surrounding areas.
Joining
Membership to the Club is voluntary and open to any individual of legal age to possess and consume alcohol in Manitoba, Canada. All Members must agree to these Terms & Conditions, acknowledge that a Participation Waiver is in effect for all Club Activities, and agree to abide by the Club’s Code of Conduct. In addition, all Members agree to uphold club values. Joining the Club can be done by registering with the Club Executives and paying your membership dues via the Club website, email, or in person.
Membership Classes
Tier 1: No Cost Members
No Cost Members can participate in unrestricted Club Activities which are open to all membership classes, and can sign up for the club mailing list.
Tier 2: No Kit Members
No Kit Members receive all the benefits of Tier 1 membership, with the following added benefits:
– Access to all Club Activities
– Club subsidized shipping to Canadian homebrew competitions
– Access to club jockey box rental
– Eligible to vote in Club Elections and other decisions
– Exclusive discounts
Tier 3: Full Members
Full Members receive all the benefits of Tier 1 and Tier 2 membership, with the added benefit of being eligible to receive the annual all-grain or extract club kit.
Executive Members
Executive Members are Full Members with an established history of participating in Club Activities, who have been elected by Club Members to help the Club fulfill its mission.
Club President
The Club President is a Full Member who voluntarily oversees the operation of the Club. The President’s primary responsibility is to manage Executive Members, who are capable and willing to contribute to the continued fulfillment of the Club’s mission.
Discontinuation of Membership
- A Member may voluntarily leave the Club at any time.
- Members should inform the Club Executive via the Club website, email, or in person if they wish to leave the Club.
- Members who have not (or refuse to) agree(d) to the Membership Terms & Conditions (which includes the Participation Waiver and Code of Conduct) will be removed from the Club.
- The Club expects responsible behaviour, consistent with Club values, from all Member and Club activity participants, regardless of a Member’s class.
- Action to restrict, suspend or terminate one’s membership in the Club may be taken if the Club Executive (by majority vote and in their sole discretion) feel a Member has demonstrated behaviour that is unbecoming, contrary to Club values, or contrary to the Club’s mission. Severe action can be expected if a Member willfully damages Club property, another Member’s property, or Club activity participant’s property, or jeopardizes Club activity participant safety.
- Members whose membership is being discontinued, restricted, suspended or terminated will not be refunded any membership dues that have been paid.
Changes to this Agreement
At the sole discretion of the Club Executive, this agreement may be revised, clarified, updated, or otherwise altered periodically. Agreement to any future version of this document is signified through the Member’s joining the Club and/or renewing of their membership.
Availability of this Agreement
The most up-to-date version of this document will be available on the Club website.
Code of Conduct
- I commit to making my participation in our Club a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual orientation.
- I commit to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy club. I will provide and defend a safe environment for all Members and participants during all Club Activities.
- I am aware that the consumption of alcoholic beverages affects my perception and reactions. If I consume alcohol as part of a Club Activity, I will do so responsibly, and in accordance with local laws and any rules set out by the Executive/hosts.
- I will not willfully misrepresent any food or beverage I share as part of any Club Activity with respect to safety or purity (e.g. alcohol content, allergens, cannabinoids).
Examples of behaviour that contributes to a positive environment for Members includes:
- Demonstrating empathy and kindness toward other people
- Being respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences
- Being respectful to our hosts, help keep their environment clean, avoiding restricted spaces and not disturbing production.
- Giving and gracefully accepting constructive feedback
- Accepting responsibility and apologizing to those affected by our mistakes, and learning from the experience
- Focusing on what is best not just for us as individuals, but for the Club overall
Examples of unacceptable behaviour include:
- The use of sexualized language or imagery, and sexual attention or advances of any kind
- Trolling, insulting or derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks
- Public or private harassment
- Publishing others’ private information, such as a physical or email address, without their explicit permission
Complaints
Code of Conduct complaints should be reported to a member of the Club Executive, who will bring it to the Club President. A Code of Conduct investigation will be undertaken, and based on the results of that investigation, appropriate action will be determined.
Anonymous complaints are accepted with the understanding that direct follow up will not be possible, and the ability to conduct an investigation may be affected. Anonymous complaints can be submitted via our Anonymous contact form here. Any complaints will be treated confidentially.
Feedback
The Club’s Code of Conduct is continually open to feedback for improvement. Please contact the Club President with any such feedback.
Participation Waiver
By becoming a member of the Winnipeg Brew Bombers Homebrew Club (hereafter referred to as the “Club”), I acknowledge and consent to Club’s use and sharing of information provided upon becoming a Member, throughout the duration of my Membership, and in perpetuity following my Membership discontinuation, restriction, suspension or termination, without compensation, for the purpose of planning, executing, and promoting club activities. Information includes, but is not limited to, names, email addresses, and likeness in photos/videos captured during Club activities.
I acknowledge that there is always some level of risk associated with every Club Activity and accept and agree that my participation in club activities is voluntary and at my own risk, and that neither the Club, Club Executives, nor hosting facilities will be held responsible for any damages, injury, or death caused by or in relation to Club Activities.
